FROM THE WINEMAKER: BENJAMIN SILVER
The 2011 vintage was a cold late one, producing aromatic balanced, finessed wines with lower alcohol. The ancient sand dune soils at White Hawk Vineyard in Los Alamos, restrict vigor & maintain balance. My "trentotto file" or 38 short rows, split evenly between clones 470 & 174, were picked on the 28th of October after enjoying an extra two weeks of hang time.
The fruit was 100% submerge cap fermented, bringing out a beautiful raspy red fruit, cranberry & strawberry nose, mixed with the sweet vanilla from 30% new American Oak barrels, and 70% seasoned French Oak barrels. Blended with 2% Viognier Cote-Rotie style.
The 2011 was held in tank for an extended period, bottled in May 2021, at 10 years of age. Very spicy, smooth & balanced.
Alcohol 12.9%
140 cases produced.
