In 1969 Jay Corley came to the Napa Valley to find land in which to plant an estate vineyard and make wine. Today, Monticello Vineyards is still owned and operated by the Corley family. Their over-riding philosophy is that great wines are made in the vineyards. The family farms five vineyards in the Napa Valley in Oak Knoll, Yountville, Rutherford and St. Helena planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Syrah.
The Monticello Jefferson Cuvée is a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc and 8% Merlot aged for 22 month is barrel. Dark, luscious aromas of boysenberry, blackberry, and anise with tones of lightly toasted oak and hints of vanilla explode from the glass. The lighter tones from the barrels are a nice balance to the dark tones of the wine. On the palate, the wine is rich in texture, with a full-bodied mid-palate. The moderate tannins frame the wine very nicely as it enters a very long, lingering finish.
