Master Sommelier Peter Neptune:
"Deeper color than the Santa Maria Pinot. Pronounced nose of black raspberry, wild strawberry, cherry, lifted florals – violets, roses – really ripe Pinot fruit but not overripe. Hint of sweet spices and sweet herbs. A drop-dead gorgeous nose. On the palate, dry, medium plus acidity, medium minus tannin – very soft and chewy. Perfectly developed fruit, forward but not overripe. Really good winemaking here. Black raspberry, wild strawberry, cherry, beautiful palate feel. Velvety tannins and really, really focused fruit and sweet spice flavors. This is a beautiful wine and again congrats on really restrained winemaking and letting the fruit and vineyard express itself."
The Sta. Rita Hills, situated at the foot of Point Conception with the Purisma Hills to the north and the Santa Rosa Hills to the south, forms the most significant western running corridor into the Pacific Ocean from Alaska to Chile. Since planting in 1986, this corridor funnels brisk ocean breezes and maritime fog over Chapel Vineyard forcing the vines to produce smaller grapes with thicker skins.
