Tellurian Viognier 2019 Heathcote - Australia

FROM THE WINERY: Well suited to the growing conditions in Heathcote, Tellurian Viognier is made in a medium to full bodied style with expressive floral and stone fruit aromatics and round, plush texture. Picked just late enough in the season to show the expressive flavor of this variety, and at the optimal time to maintain freshness and a clean finish.

VINEYARD

Hand picked from our Tellurian vineyard growing in Cambrian soils formed over 500 million years. Deep, rich, decomposed greenstone rock and limestone with soil depths up to 2m allow roots to reach deep, while relatively low fertility controls vigor and yield. 

VINTAGE

After the cooler conditions of the 2017 season, 2018 saw the return of the warm dry conditions that have been more typical in recent years. Vintage started in early February and went through to mid-March. Despite being warm overall the lead up to harvest avoided excessive heat leading to wines with good ripeness and fruit expression.

WINEMAKING

Grapes hand picked to optimize flavor and acidity, then de-stemmed and pressed with no heavy pressings being used. Settled in tank overnight, the juice was transferred to seasoned French oak barrels for fermentation with light solids. Wine remained on lees in seasoned French oak for 6 months prior to bottling.
