The grapes for this wine originate from the Kazmet Ranch in Redwood Valley which is farmed organically and CCOF certified since 2017. This vineyard is in the inland warmer reaches of Mendocino Country and is a head-pruned and dry farmed vineyard providing concentrated fruit flavors. Aromas of briary fruit, earth, dried meat, brioche, andspicy wood notes effuse out of the glass. Fleshy and full on the palate with concentrated flavors of boysenberries, blueberries, cracked white pepper and resinous pine tar.
Soft to medium tannins on the finish with lively acidity focusing on the lingering fruitiness. A small amount of Viognier (8%) was co-fermented on the skins with the Syrah to soften the tannins and add floral notes.
-Fermented in open top tanks minimizing the extraction of any bitter tannins.
-Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (20% new).
Bottled: August 17, 2021
